How Do You Wear A Wedding Set?

You’ve seen our suggestions and found the perfect engagement ring and wedding band combination. Now you might find yourself wondering how to wear your new wedding set. Traditionally, your partner will place the engagement ring on your left ring finger and once the wedding band is chosen it too is added to that finger. To add the wedding band “correctly” you’ll simply slip it on first and complete the set with your engagement ring. And there you have it, the most common way to don a wedding set.

The next question you might find yourself asking is why? This age-old phenomenon dates back to ancient times when the left ring finger was the ultimate symbol of love. It was believed that a vein in the left ring finger had a direct line to the heart. Whether or not this is true, it’s hard to ignore how sweet the sentiment is and the impact on traditions practiced centuries later.

Though this belief has set the tone for how wedded couples signify their coming together as one, traditions can be broken. In our modern times and non-Western cultures, the correct way to wear wedding rings looks different.

Non-Traditional Ways To Wear Your Wedding Set
There isn’t one way to express your love, so the “correct way to wear wedding rings,” doesn’t have to apply to you. As mentioned above, traditions don’t have to be followed, giving you the freedom to wear your wedding ring any way you see fit. There are many unique and fashionable ways to wear your set including:

Add Stacks
With this alternative, you can still follow the tradition of wearing your set on your left finger but update it by adding additional wedding bands to elevate the combo. You can start your own tradition of adding bands to celebrate your anniversary and get as creative as you’d like. From plain bands, pave, or go even bolder with a diamond-encrusted bezel band - anything goes.

Add To Necklace
Maybe you’re an active person or simply not the biggest fan of wearing rings - either way, adding your engagement ring to a necklace is a great alternative. Another plus is that you’ll significantly reduce the wear and tear of your ring by wearing them around your neck (and closer to the heart). There are even ring holder necklaces that are specifically designed to home your engagement ring and band if you don’t want to just grab a necklace from your jewelry box.

Add To Right Hand
From India to Latin American countries, many cultures wear their wedding band and engagement rings on their right hand. Even in some Western cultures, the engagement ring is worn on the right hand until the exchange of vows on the wedding day. Whether for cultural reasons or for those interested in a less conventional route, wearing your wedding set on your right hand is completely acceptable.

Ultimately, the choice is yours. You can choose to keep traditions alive and wear your wedding set on your left ring finger or explore the many unique alternatives to showcasing your set and love.
